Richard Hammond

Richard Hammond If you haven't heard, cheeky hamster Richard Hammond has had a really bad crash in a rocket car, whilst filming for Top Gear.

Crashing out at up to 300mph, he was air-lifted to Leeds General Infirmary, where his condition is described as serious but stable.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance Charity who did the airlift are not funded by Government and depend entirely on public donations - they need to raise £3600 per day to covertheirr costs (that's even more than me!). Go and give them some money - they are aiming for £7500, and are currently at £5193.

And let's hope that the Health & Safety shenanigans that will undoubtedly now happen don't affect Top Gear. Yes, speed is dangerous, but Richard has been hurt doing something he loves - he's not some reckless idiot with no licence or insurance. The people who swan around in death-traps at stupid speeds and no insurance, tax or MOT should be the ones beitargetedted, not a fun programme like Top Gear.

Good luck Richard. I haven't seen any negative comments about you in the huge amount of online discussions going on about the crash. You wouldn't believe how popular you are out here.

LATEST (16:49) Sky News: Leeds Generinfirmarymry say that Richard has "suffered a significant brain injury", but they are "optimistic that he will make a good recovery"
